Blackdown

Project Overview

Visit Site

Green Roof-supplier Blackdown needed a website to help improve their sales process.

We focused on the information needs of two vastly different target groups — industry specifiers and end-user consumers — in getting to grips with everything each group needed to know about Blackdown's complex product range. We also recommended a contemporary graphic and photographic style that is aspirational, user-friendly and in complete contrast to competitors' offerings achieving significant standout in the market.

Pivotal fully researched our business and undertook an extensive Information Architecture process. As a result of the design, photography and contemporary approach, the site has gained universal acclaim from our customers and competitors alike. Pivotal managed the project in a timely, professional and friendly manner, displaying extreme patience throughout a constantly evolving development brief.

User Experience

Understanding the client's business and products was the crucial first step in this classic information architecture project. We took in-depth client-supplied content and presented it in a way that made sense to the user, whilst meeting all the client's needs.

The prototype helped the designer by defining a visual hierarchy — showing the relative importance of the elements on the page.

Creative Solution

Despite product complexity, we think we've delivered an aspirational site that resonates with both a B2C and B2B audience, with a bold, contemporary typographic approach that's in contrast to any competitor.

We also augmented the existing image library by commissioning bespoke photography at their Nurseries in the Blackdown Hills, Somerset, used as background imagery and contextual shots.
